HMD Global, the company that produces Nokia-branded feature phones, has moved a significant portion of its manufacturing operations to India. This transition includes relocating its supply chain sourcing team to support production and export activities from the country.
According to HMD Global’s CEO, Ravi Kunwar, the company plans to export Nokia feature phones and smartphones manufactured in India to markets in West Asia and Africa. As part of this shift, the company has also encouraged its international suppliers to establish operations in India, which may contribute to expanding the country’s manufacturing capabilities.
The Indian government’s Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme and other policy measures were noted as factors likely to influence foreign investments in India’s manufacturing sector.
The relocation highlights India’s growing importance as a manufacturing hub for mobile devices in global supply chains.
