Godrej Consumer Products Ltd (GCPL) has inaugurated a new integrated manufacturing facility in Chengalpattu, Tamil Nadu, with an investment of INR 5.15 billion. The plant, spanning 27 acres within CapitaLand OneHub Chennai, is expected to create over 1,000 direct and indirect jobs.

The facility will produce a range of fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), including Cinthol soap and Goodknight mosquito repellent. It is GCPL’s 31st manufacturing unit, with another plant planned in Gwalior. The company expects the Chennai facility to generate around INR 20 billion in revenue once the first phase is completed within 12 to 15 months.

The decision to establish the plant in Chennai was influenced by factors such as port connectivity and access to raw materials from Malaysia and Indonesia. The products manufactured at the plant will cater to domestic markets in southern and northern India, as well as international markets in the United States, Latin America, and Africa.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the project was signed between GCPL and the Tamil Nadu government in August 2023, and the plant was constructed in 13 months.
