Siemens Limited has commenced manufacturing Quality Control Order (QCO)-compliant 3RT2-8K contactors at its digitalized low-voltage switchgear factory in Kalwa, Maharashtra. This development aligns with the company’s ongoing efforts to enhance local manufacturing capabilities and product quality.
The Kalwa facility, operational for over 50 years, underwent a significant digital transformation in 2017. This upgrade enabled the production of more than 180 product variants, with a manufacturing rate of one product every nine seconds, totaling an annual capacity exceeding five million devices.
In November 2024, Siemens approved an additional investment of INR 100 crore to expand the Kalwa plant’s product range to include large reactors. This investment supplements the earlier allocation of INR 360 crore announced in November 2023, aimed at increasing the plant’s manufacturing capacity from 15,000 MVA to 30,000 MVA by December 2025.
During a recent visit, Vijay Mittal, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Heavy Industries, along with Gaurav Joshi, Deputy Secretary, and other officials, toured Siemens’ Kalwa facility. The delegation inspected various units, including the low-voltage switchgear factory, switchgear test lab, medium-voltage switchgear factory, transformer factory, and the GAVATAR Control Center. This visit highlighted Siemens’ commitment to innovation and quality manufacturing.
Siemens’ initiatives at the Kalwa facility underscore its dedication to advancing local manufacturing through continuous localization and technological innovation.
