Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Drydocks World, a DP World company, to collaborate on the development of ship repair clusters in India. The agreement focuses on expanding maritime infrastructure by establishing repair facilities and exploring offshore fabrication opportunities.
The proposed ship repair clusters are planned for locations including Kochi in Kerala and Vadinar in Gujarat. The partnership will involve cooperation with other entities such as major Indian ports to enhance repair and fabrication capabilities along India’s coastline.
According to the agreement, both companies will assess opportunities for joint ventures in offshore fabrication, marine engineering, and strategic infrastructure projects. The initiative aligns with the goals outlined under the Indian government’s Maritime India Vision 2030 and Maritime AmritKaal Vision 2047.
The MoU was signed during the “CEO-Connect: Dubai-India Economic Ties & Opportunities” event in Mumbai, in the presence of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Piyush Goyal, Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, and Madhu S Nair.
“This collaboration will explore opportunities to develop ship repair clusters along India’s coastline leveraging the expertise of both organisations,” the companies stated.
The agreement is expected to contribute to expanding domestic ship repair capacity and creating employment opportunities in the maritime sector.
