Grind Master, a manufacturer of metal finishing and microfinishing machines, marked its 40th year of operations with an open house event highlighting recent advancements in its manufacturing technology. The company displayed its Bearing Raceway Superfinishing Machine, which won the IMTMA Design Award, and presented its research and development facilities focused on key manufacturing processes.
The event was attended by stakeholders from the manufacturing sector, including industry representatives, researchers, and government officials. According to an announcement by the company, the celebration also included a joint event with Ecosattva, a sustainability initiative that shares workspace and infrastructure with Grind Master.
Founded in 1984 by Milind and Mohini Kelkar, Grind Master began in a small garage and has since expanded to supply metal finishing machines to international markets. As part of the celebration, CEO Sameer Kelkar launched an autobiography titled Garage to Global, detailing the company’s history and growth. “In our small way, we have tried to develop things that were not developed earlier,” said Milind Kelkar. “We began without a pedigree in machine building. Later we went on to build microfinishers that compete with the best in the world.”
The event also featured remarks from Yatin Shah, who said, “Capital Goods in particular Machine tools is a real measure of a nation’s technological prowess. In building a specialized equipment business from scratch the Grind Master story demonstrates the strength of Make in India. The manufacturing industry needs to more proactively partner with machine tool industry to develop self reliance.”
The company’s manufacturing operations were on display during the open house, with a focus on advanced metal finishing processes and ongoing research in automation and process innovation.
