Hyundai Mobis has opened a new automotive software research and development center in Hyderabad, India, combining its two previously established R&D facilities into a single location. The new center began operations on April 7, 2025, and will focus on software for vehicles, including development related to software-defined vehicles (SDVs).

The facility is intended to serve as a base for advancing software capabilities across various stages of vehicle development. According to the company, the center will support efforts to build an integrated hardware-software platform for SDVs, with an emphasis on reducing development costs and improving research efficiency. Hyundai Mobis also plans to increase the involvement of the Hyderabad center in the early stages of product development and implement artificial intelligence to improve local software production efficiency.

Lee Jong-keun, head of Hyundai Mobis Technical Center of India, stated, “The Indian research center is a facility where innovative R&D initiatives take place, capitalizing on a large software developer pool. With nearly two decades of experience in developing mass-produced vehicles, we will promote software advancement and contribute to enhancing product competitiveness.”

The move aligns with broader automotive industry trends in India, where vehicle production reached approximately 5.2 million units in 2024 and is projected to grow to about 6.2 million units annually by 2028. Hyundai Mobis noted an increase in demand for sport utility vehicles and electric vehicles in India, along with interest in technologies like advanced driver assistance systems.
