Borosil Renewables, a manufacturer of solar glass, has announced a revised expansion plan to add 600 tonnes per day (TPD) of solar glass manufacturing capacity. The expansion, involving two furnaces of 300 TPD each (SG-4 and SG-5), will require an estimated investment of INR 9.5 billion. Commissioning is expected between October and December 2026.
This development updates an earlier plan disclosed in December 2024, which proposed a 500 TPD capacity addition. The change follows the Ministry of Finance’s imposition of anti-dumping duties on solar glass imports from China and Vietnam, effective for five years from December 4, 2024. Borosil stated that these measures are expected to support domestic manufacturing and justify increased capacity.
The funding for the project will be secured through a mix of equity, debt, and/or internal accruals, depending on management decisions.
According to the company, the imposition of anti-dumping duty for a period of five years, effective from December 04, 2024, on the import of solar glass from China and Vietnam will establish a level playing field for domestic manufacturers.
Borosil Renewables currently has an installed solar glass manufacturing capacity of 1,000 TPD.
Borosil Renewables Limited manufactures solar glass used in photovoltaic modules. It is part of the Borosil group and is based in India. The company has a 100-acre manufacturing facility in Bharuch, Gujarat, and a solar glass plant in Germany, which was acquired from the Interfloat Group.
