Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) has delivered the first Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW SWC), named Arnala, to the Indian Navy. The delivery took place on May 8, 2025, at the L&T Shipyard in Kattupalli, under a public-private partnership between GRSE and Larsen & Toubro (L&T).

The vessel, Arnala, is the first of eight ASW SWCs being built and features an overall length of 77 meters. It is powered by a diesel engine-waterjet propulsion system and is designed for operations in coastal waters. The ship is intended for underwater surveillance, search and rescue missions, low-intensity maritime operations, and anti-submarine warfare. It also has capabilities for advanced mine-laying.

FläktGroup India supplied the HVAC system for the vessel, delivering a turnkey Total Atmospheric Control System (TACS). According to the company, the system has been designed, installed, and commissioned to maintain habitable conditions onboard in various climatic and operational scenarios.

The vessel has been built to meet Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) classification rules and includes over 80 percent indigenous content, according to GRSE. The remaining seven ships in the ASW SWC series are under various stages of construction.

Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers, headquartered in Kolkata, is a shipbuilding company under the Ministry of Defence. It specializes in the construction of naval and coast guard vessels and has delivered over 100 warships to the Indian Navy and other clients.
