IndiGo has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Bangalore International Airport Ltd. (BIAL) to set up a maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility at Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru. As part of the agreement, BIAL will provide approximately 31 acres of land for the project.

The proposed facility will be capable of servicing both narrow-body and wide-body aircraft. The initiative is intended to support its expanding fleet and improve operational efficiency through faster aircraft turnaround and reduced maintenance costs. IndiGo currently operates a fleet of more than 400 aircraft and maintains existing MRO infrastructure in Delhi and Bengaluru.

“This collaboration is a pivotal step towards building a significant global presence for IndiGo, as well as for India,” said Pieter Elbers, Chief Executive Officer, IndiGo. “Developing broad IndiGo MRO capabilities marks a significant and very strategic step for IndiGo.”

In addition to the MRO facility, the MoU outlines potential cooperation in network development, infrastructure expansion, and joint promotional efforts. The facility is expected to contribute to the aerospace and defence industry in Karnataka.

Commenting on the partnership, BIAL’s Managing Director and CEO Hari Marar said, “We have had a very successful, long-term relationship with IndiGo and this collaboration further strengthens our association with the airline.”

IndiGo operates over 2,200 flights daily and connects to more than 130 destinations, including over 40 international cities. In the 2025 financial year, it inducted 58 aircraft and served more than 118 million passengers.

Kempegowda International Airport handled 41.88 million passengers and 502,480 metric tonnes of cargo during FY 2024–25. The airport has served over 350 million passengers since its opening and remains the highest-volume hub for perishable cargo in India.
