TIL Limited, a manufacturer of material handling and infrastructure equipment, has established a dedicated Strategic Business Unit (SBU), named TIL Defence, to focus on the production of military equipment for India’s armed forces. The company’s board has approved a multi-year expansion plan for this unit, which is expected to handle defence orders valued at approximately INR 20 billion over the next five years.
TIL Defence will cover equipment requirements across land, air, and naval systems. The company plans to expand the production of existing approved designs, collaborate with Defence Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) for new product development, and modernise critical platforms with updated technologies.
TIL has been involved in defence manufacturing since 1987 and has produced specialised equipment such as the AKASH Transporter cum Loader Vehicles for the Air Force and the Pinaka Loader cum Replenishment Vehicles for the Multi Barrel Rocket System.
“TIL Defence consolidates nearly four decades of specialised defence manufacturing, from our AKASH Transporter cum Loader Vehicles serving the Air Force to the Pinaka Loader cum Replenishment Vehicles that form the critical logistics backbone for India’s Multi Barrel Rocket System. Our equipment operates in the most demanding conditions – from -30°C to +55°C temperatures and altitudes up to 4,000 meters – with NATO Standard-qualified systems that demonstrate our engineering excellence,” said Alok Kumar Tripathi, President of TIL Limited.
“Beyond our core platforms like advanced ammunition and missile handling systems, heavy-duty recovery vehicles, and all-terrain mobile cranes, TIL Defence brings comprehensive lifecycle support through our aftermarket program that serves over 200 customers. Our multi-year expansion plan focuses on productionising already approved systems, collaborating with Defence PSUs for next-generation products, and leveraging our strategic partnerships to integrate cutting-edge technologies. This approach ensures we deliver not just equipment, but complete operational readiness solutions for India’s tri-services while creating high-skilled manufacturing employment and developing export capabilities,” said Pinaki Niyogy, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Technology Officer of TIL Limited, who will lead the new business unit.
The company reported revenue of INR 3.43 billion for the financial year 2025, marking a 398 percent increase compared to the previous year and returning to profitability after six years.
TIL Limited’s installed base includes over 3,000 machines across India, supported by a service network catering to more than 200 customers. The company works in partnership with international technology providers to strengthen its manufacturing and support capabilities for defence requirements.
