The Nagpur depot operated by Alstom, in partnership with Indian Railways, has reached a fleet size of 250 WAG12B electric locomotives under maintenance. Commissioned in March 2023 as part of a public-private partnership, the facility supports Indian Railways’ transition to electric-powered freight operations.

The WAG12B locomotives managed at the depot are part of a broader initiative to modernise India’s freight rail network. The Nagpur facility oversees their maintenance and operational readiness, with support from Madhepura Electric Locomotive Pvt Ltd (MELPL), a joint venture between Alstom and Indian Railways.

Alstom highlighted the role of collaborative infrastructure development and acknowledged MELPL’s contribution to keeping the fleet operational.

Alstom is involved in various rail transport projects across India, including both passenger and freight sectors. The company operates multiple facilities in collaboration with Indian Railways, such as locomotive assembly at Madhepura and maintenance depots in Nagpur and other locations.
