IFGL Refractories has inaugurated a new 60 tons per day (TPD) fully automatic continuous tempering kiln at its manufacturing facility in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The kiln is dedicated to producing magnesia carbon bricks, which are widely used in steelmaking due to their resistance to thermal shock and slag corrosion.
The kiln was inaugurated on 2 July 2025 by Arasu Shanmugam, Director and CEO – India. According to the company, the kiln’s automation and continuous processing capabilities are expected to improve production efficiency, consistency, and product quality.
According to the company, the new kiln increases IFGL’s ability to manufacture high-performance magnesia carbon bricks. It is part of IFGL Refractories’ broader strategy to invest in technological upgrades and enhance operational performance in line with evolving industry needs.
IFGL Refractories manufactures specialized refractory products for the steel industry and operates both domestic and international production units. In India, the company has a strong presence across Odisha, Gujarat, and Andhra Pradesh, supporting a wide range of manufacturing and research activities.
Its Kalunga facility in Odisha, located in the Kalunga Industrial Estate near Rourkela, serves as a major manufacturing hub and houses a research center focused on refractory innovation. In Gujarat, IFGL operates a 100 percent export-oriented unit in the Kandla Special Economic Zone, producing ISO products, monolithics, and precast shapes. Additional manufacturing capabilities in Wankaner and Adipur further strengthen its production network.
At the Visakhapatnam facility, IFGL recently invested in a casting flux division with an annual capacity of 18,000 metric tons, in addition to the new kiln. Across its Indian locations, the company manufactures slide gate systems, magnesia carbon bricks, casting fluxes, monolithics, precast shapes, and tube changer mechanisms.
A new continuous casting refractories facility is planned in Odisha and is expected to begin production by FY27. The company also integrates sustainability practices into its operations and maintains a large Indian workforce, including technical and application specialists, to support a global customer base of over 300 clients.
