Rain CII Carbon (Vizag) Limited, a subsidiary of Rain Carbon Inc., has announced plans to set up a coal tar distillation facility in the Andhra Pradesh Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) in Anakapalli, India. The project will be executed in two phases, with operations expected to begin in the second half of 2025.

According to the company, Phase I of the project will require an estimated investment of $5 million and is designed to process approximately 50,000 metric tons (MT) of pitch annually. The output from this phase will cater to the Indian graphite, battery, and aluminium markets.

Phase II will incorporate modular distillation technology and is projected to have an annual capacity of 200,000 MT. This phase will utilize domestic coal tar and petroleum feedstocks, with additional materials sourced from imports as needed.

Rain Carbon Inc. has secured the necessary environmental approvals for the facility. The company states that the initiative is aligned with the increasing demand from the Indian steel industry and aims to strengthen its position in the region’s market.
