L&T Heavy Engineering has despatched a steam generator for the Gorakhpur Haryana Anu Vidyut Pariyojana (GHAVP) in Fatehabad district, Haryana. The equipment was sent from the company’s Hazira manufacturing facility in Gujarat in the presence of senior officials from the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) and L&T.

This is the first of four steam generators being manufactured by L&T for GHAVP Units 3 and 4. According to the company, the unit has been delivered seven months ahead of schedule. GHAVP 3 and 4 are part of the ten indigenous 700 MWe Pressurised Heavy Water Reactors (PHWRs) currently under development by NPCIL in fleet mode.

“With a remarkable technology transformation, L&T Heavy Engineering has enhanced both speed and quality of its execution. This is a strong indication of industry preparedness in manufacturing of critical equipment for nuclear power plants and will go a long way to achieve the target of 100 GWe by 2047,” said NPCIL Chairman and Managing Director Bhuwan Chandra Pathak.

“Heavy Engineering continues to be the industry trendsetter in the manufacture of critical nuclear components. With end-to-end capability as one-stop-shop solution provider, L&T will be a major contributor to India’s 100 GWe nuclear programme of Viksit Bharat – 2047,” stated Anil V Parab, Whole-time Director and Senior EVP (Heavy Engineering and Construction Equipment & Industrial Product Design Development, L&T).

L&T reported that the steam generator was delivered within 33 months, which the company described as a benchmark. So far, it has supplied five steam generators for NPCIL’s 10 x 700 MWe fleet programme.

L&T Heavy Engineering is a business of Larsen & Toubro that manufactures critical equipment and systems for sectors including nuclear power, hydrocarbons, defence, and fertilisers. It operates manufacturing facilities in India and abroad.
