Motherson Sumi Wiring India Limited (MSWIL), a manufacturer of wiring harnesses and electrical distribution systems for automotive applications, reported improved utilisation across its new Greenfield facilities during the second quarter of FY2026, supported by rising customer volumes and demand from new vehicle model launches.

MSWIL recorded its highest-ever quarterly revenue of INR 27.62 billion, with the three Greenfield plants contributing about INR 1.9 billion. Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) stood at INR 2.8 billion, up 12 percent year-on-year. The company said that most of its new facilities are in the ramp-up phase, aligned with evolving customer requirements.

Greenfield utilisation improved to 36 percent during the quarter, up from earlier periods. Management said the plants are expected to reach optimal utilisation levels of 70–80 percent over the next few quarters as original equipment manufacturer (OEM) volumes increase. One Greenfield has already achieved its projected production levels, while the other two are still scaling up. Losses from these facilities have narrowed sequentially, with the company noting continued improvement as volumes rise.

Chief Operating Officer Anurag Gahlot said plant profitability will improve once utilisation exceeds 70 percent, adding that shop-floor employment will rise in step with production volumes. “As volumes grow, manpower will also increase, and efficiency will improve as the plants reach higher productivity levels,” he stated during the call.

MSWIL’s product mix continued to evolve with the expansion of electric vehicle (EV) programmes. The share of EV-related business rose to 7 percent of sales in the quarter, compared with 5 percent in the previous period. The company is also increasing localisation for high-voltage harnesses to support the growing EV segment.

For FY2026, the company has budgeted capital expenditure of INR 2.1 billion. The investment for the following year will depend on customer demand and new programme schedules to be finalised later. Raw material costs were affected by a 5 percent quarter-on-quarter increase in copper prices, which are contractually adjusted with customers on a quarterly lag.

Motherson Sumi Wiring India Limited, a joint venture between Samvardhana Motherson International Limited and Sumitomo Wiring Systems of Japan, operates multiple manufacturing facilities across India. The company supplies wiring harnesses and electrical distribution systems to major passenger vehicle manufacturers, serving both internal combustion and electric vehicle platforms.
