Minamida Co., Ltd, a Japan-headquartered manufacturer of cold-forged and precision-machined automotive components, plans to establish a new automotive components manufacturing facility in India through its subsidiary, Minamida India Pvt. Ltd. This will expand the group’s production footprint beyond Japan, Thailand and Mexico. The proposed facility will be located at the Tumakuru Machine Tool Park in Karnataka and is intended to support domestic automotive demand while integrating Indian operations into Minamida’s global manufacturing and supply network.

The Tumakuru project will be implemented through a clearly defined, multi-stage schedule extending to 2034. During 2025, the company finalised the site location and investment plan. Company registration is scheduled by February 2026, followed by land acquisition and the start of construction later in 2026. Installation of production machinery is planned by September 2026, with construction activities continuing into 2027. Trial production and submission of samples to customers are scheduled during 2027, ahead of the targeted start of mass production in December 2027.

“We will invest INR 700 million over the next 5 years to establish operations,” said Takeshi Minamida, CEO of Minamida Co, Ltd.

The first operational phase, running until 2028, will focus on establishing stable production systems and localising existing products for the Indian market. In the subsequent phase, extending to around 2030, Minamida plans to increase domestic business volumes and begin exporting forging blanks to other Minamida plants. Longer-term phases, extending through 2032 and 2034, include plans to add in-house heat treatment and plating processes, introduce internal die manufacturing capabilities, and position the Indian facility as a regional export hub for both forging blanks and skilled human resources within the Minamida group.

The Indian subsidiary is planned as a dedicated automotive manufacturing unit producing cold-forged parts and fasteners. The product range will include chassis and suspension components, large-size fasteners such as bolts and nuts of M14 size and above, seat belt and airbag parts, brake and motor components, and steering-related parts. Minamida India is expected to supply Tier 1 and Tier 2 automotive component manufacturers serving vehicle manufacturers operating in India.

Planned equipment for the Tumakuru facility includes bolt parts formers with six stations and a maximum cutting diameter of 33 millimetres, parts formers with five stations and a maximum diameter of 27 millimetres, along with tapping machines and CNC lathes. Steel supply for the Indian operations is expected to be supported by Toyotsu Suzutoyo Special Steel Processing India Pvt. Ltd. and Mukand Sumi Special Steel Ltd. Machines used could come from Sakamura, Mori, Takamatsu and Mitsui Seiki.

Minamida’s existing Tier 1 customer base includes Y-TEC, Topre, H-ONE, Bellsonica, Yorozu, Unipres, Toyotetsu, F-Tech, JTEKT, Sumitomo Riko, Sumitomo Wiring Systems, Toyo Tires, Sanoh, Maruyasu Industries, Ashimori, Mitsubishi Electric, Kawasaki, Schaeffler, ZF and Valeo. These Tier 1 customers supply to automotive original equipment manufacturers including Toyota Motor Corporation, Nissan Motor Co., Subaru Corporation and Daihatsu Motor Co., underscoring its integration into Japanese and global automotive supply chains.
