SEW-EURODRIVE India inaugurated a new Drive Technology Centre (DTC) in Chennai on 22 January 2026, marking a further expansion of its manufacturing and engineering footprint in the country. The new assembly plant is in Sriperumbudur, located around two kilometres from its existing Chennai facility. The facility is intended to support original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and end users with advanced drive technology, automation solutions, and application engineering capabilities.

The company’s existing four-acre plant had reached full capacity, prompting the acquisition of an additional 12.3 acres to support future growth and maintain short delivery timelines. Assembly operations at the new site began in December 2025.

The new Sriperumbudur site includes a 15,000 square metre factory and a 4,000 square metre administration building. It is designed to serve customers across southern and eastern India over the next 10 to 15 years, while the existing facility will be dedicated primarily to automation-related activities. The expansion is aimed at improving responsiveness, customer support, and the ability to handle complex and high-power applications.

The Chennai DTC brings together local engineering expertise and global design standards to support scalable production and customised solutions for industrial customers. The centre is positioned as a hub for engineering development, system integration, and customer support, and forms part of SEW-EURODRIVE’s broader India operations, which span four strategic manufacturing locations.

The company’s Indian portfolio includes standard and specialised gearmotors, heavy-duty industrial gear units for sectors such as mining, cement, and ports, and a range of drive electronics and automation systems. These include frequency inverters, decentralised drive solutions, and modular automation platforms designed for material handling, logistics, and industrial automation applications.

According to Denis Scheller, District Manager for International Markets at SEW-EURODRIVE headquarters in Germany, India has emerged as a core market in the company’s global strategy, supported by sustained investments made over nearly three decades. India remains a priority for future investments in facilities and talent, reflecting the company’s long-term focus on localisation and closer collaboration with customers across industrial segments.

India is also a key market for strengthening local-for-local manufacturing, in line with global shifts in supply chain and sourcing strategies.

SEW-EURODRIVE also offers lifecycle services covering engineering support, commissioning, maintenance, condition monitoring, and retrofitting of existing machinery. These services are intended to extend equipment life, improve energy efficiency, and reduce unplanned downtime for industrial operators.

With continued investment in facilities, technology, and skilled talent, SEW-EURODRIVE India is positioned to support growing demand for customised drive and automation solutions across a range of industrial sectors.

SEW-EURODRIVE is a global specialist in drive technology and automation systems, supplying modular gearmotors, industrial gear units, drive electronics, and software-based automation solutions for industrial applications worldwide.

The new facility is located at Plot No. 8 & 9, SIPCOT Industrial Park – Phase IV, Mambakkam Village, Sriperumbudur, Kancheepuram, Tamilnadu – 602 106.
