Unbox Robotics Private Limited, a Pune-based supply chain robotics technology company, has raised USD 28 million in a funding round led by ICICI Venture, as it looks to scale its presence in overseas markets where it generates the bulk of its revenue. The round comprised a mix of primary and secondary capital and included participation from RedStartLabs, a subsidiary of Info Edge, along with F Prime, 3one4 Capital, Navam Capital, Force Ventures, and other existing investors.
The funds will be used to expand its engineering team, accelerate product development, and grow its market presence across India and international markets. Part of the secondary capital will also be used to provide liquidity to employees through the company’s employee stock ownership plan programme.
The latest round follows an earlier USD 14.1 million raise from 3one4 Capital and other investors. The company is positioning itself to capitalise on rising demand for warehouse automation in ecommerce and logistics, particularly in markets outside India.
Founded in 2019 by Pramod Ghadge and Shahid Memon, Unbox Robotics develops artificial intelligence-powered, software-defined vertical robotic parcel sortation systems for ecommerce and logistics operations. The company said its systems use proprietary swarm intelligence to deliver space-efficient automation, requiring 50 to 80 percent less area while enabling higher throughput during peak demand periods.
Unbox Robotics currently serves customers across the ecommerce, retail, and logistics sectors in India, Europe, and the United States. It has active deployments in Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, and Belgium, and is in the process of closing a deal in Poland. In the United States, the company is preparing for its first large-scale deployment with a third-party logistics provider. To date, it has deployed around 500 robots across warehouses globally.
According to the company, around 96 percent of its revenue over the past 12 months has been generated from Western markets, with India accounting for about 4 percent. Unbox Robotics operates on both an upfront sales model and a Robot as a Service model, allowing customers to either purchase robots outright or opt for a subscription-based arrangement.
Beyond ecommerce and retail, the company is evaluating opportunities to deploy its robotics systems in pharmaceutical manufacturing. Unbox Robotics designs and supplies robotic automation solutions focused on parcel sortation and warehouse operations for logistics-intensive industries across international markets.
