BEML Limited has approved an estimated investment of INR 15 billion to establish a greenfield rail manufacturing facility at Umariya, near Bhopal, in Madhya Pradesh. The decision was taken at a meeting of the company’s board of directors held on 06 February 2026. The project is intended to strengthen the company’s rail manufacturing capabilities.

The proposed facility will be developed under the project name “Greenfield Rail Manufacturing Facility – BRAHMA.” The company has estimated the total project cost at approximately INR 15 billion.

The company said the investment will be financed through long-term debt. The project is planned to be implemented in a phased manner and is expected to be completed over a period of five years.

In its disclosure, BEML stated that the rationale for the investment is to enhance its manufacturing capabilities. The filing did not provide details on planned production capacity, product range, or employment generation from the proposed facility.

BEML Limited is a public sector enterprise engaged in the manufacture of equipment for the rail and metro, defence, and mining and construction sectors. The company is listed on the National Stock Exchange of India and BSE Limited.
