BEML Limited has acquired land in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh to establish new manufacturing facilities aimed at supporting the rail, metro, and mining equipment sectors. The Madhya Pradesh government allotted approximately 148 acres (60.063 hectares) of land in Umeria, Raisen district for a construction facility to manufacture rolling stock and coaches for railway and metro projects.
In Chhattisgarh, the state cabinet approved the allotment of 100 acres of land in Janjgir-Champa district at a concessional rate of Re. 1 per acre. The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting held in April 2025, chaired by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai. The plant is intended for manufacturing heavy earth moving equipment and aims to promote local employment and micro and small industries, according to a state government spokesperson.
The development followed BEML’s expression of interest in March 2025 to set up a facility in the state focused on producing high-performance dump trucks, water sprinklers, and motor graders to meet growing demand in the mining and infrastructure sectors. The initiative was supported during an Investor Connect event held in Bengaluru, where Chief Minister Sai formally invited BEML to invest in Chhattisgarh and met with BEML Managing Director Shantanu Roy to discuss the state’s plans for industrial development.
BEML Limited is a public sector company under the Indian Ministry of Defence. It manufactures products for defence, rail and metro, and mining and construction sectors, with existing production facilities across Karnataka and other locations in India.
