BEML Ltd. has received approval from the Chhattisgarh Government for the allotment of 100 acres of land to set up a manufacturing plant for heavy earth moving equipment. The plant will be located in the state and is intended to support the production of mining and infrastructure machinery.
The decision was finalized during a state Cabinet meeting held on 18 April 2025. According to BEML, the facility is expected to support localized manufacturing of equipment and expand its operations in the mining and infrastructure sectors.
BEML stated, “The proposed facility will enhance BEML’s Make in India efforts, enabling the localized production of critical mining and infrastructure equipment.”
BEML Limited, formerly known as Bharat Earth Movers Limited, is a public sector undertaking established in May 1964. Headquartered in Bengaluru, Karnataka, the company operates under the administrative control of the Ministry of Defence. BEML manufactures a range of heavy equipment for sectors including mining and construction, rail and metro, and defence and aerospace.
Its product portfolio includes earthmoving machinery, underground mining equipment, railway coaches, high-power diesel engines, and heavy-duty hydraulic aggregates. The company has manufacturing facilities located in Bengaluru, Kolar Gold Fields, Mysuru, and Palakkad. As of FY 2024-25, BEML employs approximately 6,973 individuals.
The Government of India holds a 54.03% stake in the company, with the remaining shares held by financial institutions, foreign institutional investors, banks, the public, and employees.
