Jindal (India) Limited, part of the BC Jindal Group, commissioned an advanced metal coating line at its Ranihati manufacturing complex in Howrah district, West Bengal, marking a new phase in its downstream steel capacity expansion. The project involved an investment of INR 11 billion and the first coated product was rolled out during the week of commissioning, expanding the company’s value-added steel manufacturing footprint.

The new line is expected to increase production of value-added coated steel products by around 60 percent to approximately 0.3 million tonnes per year. The company said the expansion is expected to support a 20 percent increase in revenue in FY26, driven by higher volumes and an improved product mix.

The metal coating line has been supplied by SMS Esmech and features automated operations, coating control systems and high process stability. It is designed to manufacture coated steel products with thicknesses ranging from 0.3 millimetres to 2.0 millimetres and widths between 750 millimetres and 1,350 millimetres. The output is intended for use in infrastructure, construction, white goods, solar mounting structures, engineered buildings and roofing applications.

“The commissioning of this state-of-the-art advanced metal coating line reflects our long-term vision to build a strong, technology-led downstream steel platform in India,” said Shyam Sunder Jindal, Promoter, BC Jindal Group. “Investments in advanced manufacturing capabilities enable us to enhance product quality, expand our value-added offerings, and align our growth with India’s rapidly evolving infrastructure and manufacturing needs.”

The commissioning forms part of a wider downstream expansion programme announced in FY25, under which the BC Jindal Group outlined capital expenditure of INR 15 billion for capacity additions at its West Bengal facilities. The new coating line, with the ability to handle multiple coating types, is a key element of this investment plan.

With the addition, Jindal (India) aims to increase output of galvanised iron and galvalume products to address demand from infrastructure, white goods and industrial segments. The company said the expansion would also support applications requiring higher corrosion resistance and consistent coating quality.

“Jindal (India) Limited is one of the leading national players in the downstream steel industry,” Jindal added. “This expansion reflects our commitment to quality, innovation and technology advancement.”

Founded in 1952, Jindal (India) Limited operates two manufacturing facilities in Howrah with a combined metal coating capacity of 1 million tonnes per annum. The company produces coated flat steel, pipes and aluminium foil, with coated products accounting for around 70 percent of total output.
