Samvardhana Motherson International Limited has inaugurated an automotive lighting manufacturing facility in Sanand, Gujarat, through its joint venture Marelli Motherson Automotive Lighting India Private Limited (MMLI). The plant is dedicated to producing exterior lighting systems and expands the group’s automotive component manufacturing operations in India.
The new facility spans 8,200 square metres and is equipped with multi-colour moulding machines with capacities ranging from 2,000T to 2,700T. The plant is capable of manufacturing edge-to-edge single-piece long lighting parts.
The company stated that the facility localises the slimmest headlamp module and enables single-piece, end-to-end Daytime Running Lights (DRL) and Rear Combination Lamps (RCL) in India. It added that the plant features rooftop solar power and that plans are underway to source open-access green power.
MMLI is a strategic joint venture between Samvardhana Motherson International Limited and Marelli Europe SPA, in which Samvardhana Motherson International Limited holds 50 percent equity share capital.
