ABB India Limited announced on 09 March 2026 that it will invest about USD 75 million in India during 2026 to expand its manufacturing footprint and research and development capabilities across multiple locations. The investment will support production and technology development for electrification and automation solutions used in sectors such as renewable energy, metro rail, data centres and industrial infrastructure.

The investment follows spending of more than USD 35 million by the company in 2025. Around 85 percent of the products and solutions sold by ABB in India are manufactured locally, reflecting the company’s localisation strategy.

“This investment in India is an important part of our strategy to support infrastructure build-out and growth in one of our fastest growing markets,” said Morten Wierod, Chief Executive Officer of ABB. “We are seeing strong demand driven by the country’s energy transition, grid modernization, data center development, and the rapid expansion of the metro and high-speed rail segments. Our expanded facilities will ensure we meet this demand while enhancing our capabilities to serve other markets in the region.”

Across its Electrification, Motion and Automation business areas, the investment programme will expand manufacturing capacity and support industries such as data centres and public infrastructure. Approximately 300 new skilled jobs in engineering, operations and research are expected to be created as part of the expansion.

In Bengaluru, ABB will invest USD 14 million at its Nelamangala Campus 1 and Campus 2 facilities to expand production capabilities and introduce new technology ranges in 2026, including electrical protection and enclosure solutions. The investment will also support expansion of converter manufacturing used in sustainable mobility applications and equipment for rail transportation systems.

At its Peenya operations in Bengaluru, ABB will invest USD 21 million to expand manufacturing capacity for low-voltage drives and specialised motors, including flameproof motors, roller-table motors and smoke-venting motors. The site will also add an innovation laboratory, remote monitoring and diagnostics capabilities, upgraded training facilities and modernised electromagnetic flowmeter calibration equipment.

In Hyderabad, ABB is progressing a multi-phase laboratory and office project, including a USD 12 million investment in 2026 for the first phase. The development includes a 12,400 square metre leased office and laboratory facility following the relocation of operations in February 2026, with a high-power laboratory planned as part of a second phase on a 16,630 square metre company-owned site.

The company will invest USD 22 million to expand its Nashik facility for the production of indoor and outdoor circuit breakers and to enlarge its vacuum interrupter manufacturing operations. The expansion will also support localisation of 33 kilovolt primary gas insulated switchgear and the development of sulphur hexafluoride-free technologies by 2028.

In Vadodara, ABB will invest USD 6 million to expand manufacturing capacity for slow-speed synchronous generators and induction motors and to develop additional service workshops and a training centre.

ABB reported revenue in India of more than USD 1.5 billion in 2025 and employs more than 10,000 people across the country. ABB operates nearly 25 manufacturing, distribution and operating facilities in India along with five major research and development centres.
