SIG has inaugurated its first aseptic carton production facility in India with an investment of €90 million. The plant, located in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, was completed in 20 months and has an initial production capacity of up to 4 billion aseptic carton packs annually.

The facility will supply SIG’s existing filler base, which serves dairy and non-carbonated soft drink producers in India. The company stated that the plant is expected to reduce delivery lead times and enhance market responsiveness. More than 300 local jobs have been created as part of the project.

The opening ceremony was attended by Swiss State Secretary for Economic Affairs Helene Budliger Artieda and a Swiss economic delegation.

India is a major global producer of milk and juice, with a growing demand for aseptic packaging solutions due to limited cold chain infrastructure. According to SIG, aseptic cartons allow for long-term storage without preservatives or refrigeration.

Since entering the Indian market in 2018, SIG has reported business growth, including double-digit revenue increases in 2024. The company has approved an additional €50 million investment in a local extrusion line, expected to be operational by 2027.

SIG’s India, Middle East, and Africa President & General Manager Abdelghany Eladib stated that manufacturing within India will help meet growing demand more efficiently. Vandana Tandan, Head of Market India and Bangladesh at SIG, noted that the beverage processing industry has experienced significant growth, presenting further opportunities in the region.

The company’s investment aims to expand its presence in India’s packaging sector, with a focus on increasing production capacity and market reach.
