SHM Group has developed a lifeboat designed and manufactured in India that has received certification from the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) on behalf of the Directorate General of Shipping. The system is intended for emergency evacuation on ships and offshore installations.

The lifeboat was developed in collaboration with Palfinger Marine, an Austria-based maritime equipment manufacturer. The partnership combines Palfinger Marine’s engineering standards with SHM Group’s domestic manufacturing capabilities to produce lifeboats that comply with the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) requirements.

Certification by the Indian Register of Shipping confirms that the system meets safety and regulatory requirements overseen by the Directorate General of Shipping. The lifeboat was designed and manufactured within India, enabling domestic production of regulated maritime safety equipment.

SHM Group has undertaken several maritime engineering and vessel development projects in recent years. In July 2025, the company launched Ocean Crewzer VII, a 32-metre aluminium high-speed passenger craft. In October 2025, it inaugurated the SHM Academy for Maritime Safety in Kochi to provide specialised training for the maritime sector.

Earlier developments include the launch of Sea Stallion I in April 2024, an aluminium hull fast crew boat designed for offshore crew transfers. The vessel was introduced to support offshore operations including crew transport.

SHM Group operates shipbuilding, engineering, and maritime service facilities across multiple locations in India. Its shipyard at Vasai in Palghar specialises in fibre reinforced plastic (FRP) vessel construction, while a manufacturing site in the Additional Murbad Industrial Area in Thane produces maritime safety equipment such as lifejackets and inflatable liferafts. The group also operates engineering and ship refurbishment facilities in Mazgaon, Mumbai, and a marine chemicals and technical support facility in the TTC Industrial Area in Navi Mumbai.
