Indo-Russian Rifles Private Limited (IRRPL) is expected to deliver 7,000 AK-203 assault rifles to the Indian Army over the next two to three weeks from its manufacturing facility in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh. A further 15,000 rifles are scheduled for delivery by December 2025.

These shipments follow the earlier supply of 48,000 rifles under a contract valued at approximately INR 51.24 billion for a total of 601,427 rifles, with final deliveries planned by December 2030. According to IRRPL, the initial batch was delivered 22 months ahead of schedule.

The AK-203 is a modernised version of the Kalashnikov rifle and is replacing the Indian Army’s INSAS rifles. It features a rate of fire of 700 rounds per minute and an effective range of 800 metres. The weapon is intended for counterterrorism operations and high-altitude deployments.

IRRPL currently produces around 12,000 rifles per month and has achieved approximately 50 percent indigenisation in its manufacturing processes. The company aims to reach full indigenisation by the end of 2025.

Indo-Russian Rifles Private Limited is a joint venture between Indian and Russian entities, including the Indian government’s Advanced Weapons and Equipment India Limited (AWEIL), DRDO, Kalashnikov Concern, and Rosoboronexport. The Amethi facility is tasked with large-scale production and assembly of AK-203 rifles for domestic use.
