Ceratizit India has broken ground for the construction of new production facilities in Uluberia, Kolkata, and Bommasandra, Bengaluru. The projects are part of a broader multi-phase capacity expansion aimed at developing India as a central manufacturing and export hub for the group, with a focus on sectors including aerospace, medical, semiconductor, and energy.

The existing Uluberia site currently functions as both a production facility for carbide inserts and a high-tech logistics centre. The upcoming facility is designed by Sabyasachi Sen & Associates, with an emphasis on energy efficiency and sustainability, supporting the group’s broader efforts to reduce its carbon footprint.

Sustainability is a key part of the company’s global strategy, with initiatives including the installation of a 100 kWp photovoltaic system at Uluberia and the introduction of products such as S-Cut Milling Solutions made from 99 percent reprocessed raw materials. The company also produces 3D-printed cutter bodies and tools with enhanced cooling channels, developed to improve efficiency while reducing environmental impact.

The Uluberia site has been operational since the group’s entry into India in 1996 through the acquisition of India Hard Metals. It has since undergone multiple expansions, including a second unit inaugurated in 2013 and the installation of a chemical vapour deposition coating plant in 2018. The upcoming facility continues this long-term strategy of phased growth.

Ceratizit operates a dual-hub model in India with two in the Bengaluru area and one in Uluberia. Alongside Uluberia, the Bengaluru operations—strengthened by the acquisition of Cobra Carbide India in 2015—are being expanded to triple the production of solid carbide tools. Together, the facilities are intended to serve both domestic industry demand and export markets across Asia.

As part of ongoing leadership changes, Saranath Bhaduri was appointed Managing Director of Ceratizit India effective 1 June 2025. He succeeds Anil Kumar, who moves to a new role as Managing Director of Plansee India HPM Pvt. Ltd. Bhaduri has over 35 years of experience within the Plansee Group, having begun as a production engineer at SIEL Hard Metals. Most recently, he served as Senior Vice President – Operations at CERATIZIT India, where he played a pivotal role in the successful relocation and setup of the manufacturing facility in Uluberia.

Luxembourg-based Ceratizit is part of the Austria-based Plansee Group, a manufacturer of hard material and high-performance materials. Ceratizit develops and manufactures cutting tools and wear-protection products, with its Indian operations focusing on carbide inserts, solid carbide tools, and advanced manufacturing solutions for industries including automotive, aerospace, energy, and medical technology.
