Walchandnagar Industries has commenced the development of a new gear manufacturing facility, aiming to expand its precision gear production capabilities. The initiative was marked with a Bhumi Puja ceremony attended by the company’s MD & CEO Chirag Doshi and senior colleagues.
The new facility is expected to increase the company’s capacity to produce high-speed gear drive systems, heavy-duty planetary drive systems, and propulsion gear units for marine applications. Walchandnagar Industries already operates specialised machinery for gear shaping, grinding, and heat treatment, and holds certifications from agencies including Lloyd’s and the Indian Navy.
The development is positioned to strengthen India’s capacity for high-precision gear systems that support defence, marine, energy, and industrial applications. With experience in heavy machinery, propulsion gearboxes, and complex engineering projects, the company expects the facility to enhance domestic manufacturing capability while creating scope for international collaboration. The move also comes amid rising demand for advanced marine gearboxes, including CODAG, FAC and FPV applications, as well as wind turbine gearboxes and heavy industrial drives.
The company’s existing manufacturing infrastructure includes a plant in Dharwad with advanced gear and pinion hobbing machines, heat treatment facilities, testing laboratories, and a full tool room. The new facility is expected to complement these capabilities and support precision gear manufacturing for sectors such as aerospace, defence, nuclear, and marine applications.
Walchandnagar Industries is a heavy engineering company with over 100 years of experience, producing critical components for various industrial and strategic sectors. Its portfolio includes gear manufacturing, specialised machinery, and engineering solutions certified by domestic and international agencies.
