Texmaco Rail & Engineering Limited (Texrail) and Nymwag have completed construction of a new freight wagon manufacturing facility in Kolkata under their joint venture, Texmaco Nymwag Rail and Components Private Limited. The plant is designed for an annual output of 2,500 wagons and has now entered pilot production. The partners expect the first completed wagon, a four-axle open gondola car, to be released in February 2026.
Construction of the factory began in March 2024 and was completed in October 2025. The 8,300-square-metre site houses four production lines equipped with cutting systems from ESAB, welding technology from Fronius and machinery sourced from Indian suppliers, including cranes, fixtures, saws and press brakes. Pre-cast components will be sourced from Texrail’s nearby foundry. Trial production beginning in November 2025 will focus on welded structures, subassemblies and training of newly hired personnel.
According to the joint-venture plan announced in April 2023, the plant will manufacture gondola cars, container flatcars, tank cars and a range of wagon assemblies and components. This includes up to 30,000 bogie frames and 10,000 pneumatic brake pipelines annually. The project’s estimated cost at the start of construction was USD 15.6 million.
Management is provided by a six-member board of directors that includes three Nymwag representatives: Petr Manišovský, Production Director; Vojtěch Vlček, Technology Director; and Filip Křivan, Quality Director.
The partners intend to serve both domestic and international markets, with planned exports to Europe, Asia and North America. Nymwag has stated that the investment is supported by India’s economic momentum and the long-term outlook for freight rail demand.
Texrail manufactures rolling stock and engineering products for the rail sector. Nymwag is a Czech producer of freight wagons and components.
