Naxion Energy, a Hyderabad-based sodium-ion battery manufacturer, has announced plans to invest INR 2 billion by December 2026 to expand its production capacity and establish a new manufacturing facility in Hyderabad. The company said the expansion is aimed at meeting rising demand for its battery technologies across mobility and energy storage applications.

The company currently operates a plant in Coimbatore, which manufactures high-performance sodium-ion battery packs.

Naxion Energy India Chief Executive Officer Abishek Reddy stated that the upcoming facility is expected to be operational next year and will include an assembly unit as well as a cell manufacturing line. “Our plans include setting up both an assembly plant and a cell manufacturing facility in Hyderabad, which will be Naxion Energy’s second manufacturing plant,” said Reddy. He added that the company will increase its workforce by 50 percent as part of the expansion.

Earlier in the day, Naxion unveiled what it described as India’s first sodium-ion-based energy storage systems, developed and manufactured at the Coimbatore plant. The integrated platform combines a battery, inverter, and solar maximum power point tracking (MPPT) unit into a single system and is designed to offer a safer and more cost-efficient alternative to traditional lead-acid solutions.

Reddy said the technology is intended to support applications across residential, commercial, industrial, and defence sectors. “This technology is designed to meet the growing demand for clean, reliable, and maintenance-free energy storage across residential, commercial, industrial, and defence sectors, delivering long cycle life and performance even in extreme Indian climates,” he said.

The company stated that the sodium-ion platform is engineered to replace diesel generators and address limitations associated with lead-acid-based backup systems. The systems will be available in 3.5 kW, 5 kW, and 10 kW models with built-in batteries, and each unit can be expanded to double its capacity.

Naxion Energy, founded in Hyderabad, develops sodium-ion battery packs and energy storage solutions for enterprise and OEM customers across India.
