WEG has supplied two large hydrogenerators for operation at a new hydroelectric power plant in Türkiye, marking an export of heavy power-generation equipment manufactured at its Indian facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. The project expands the company’s participation in international hydroelectric developments while underscoring India’s role within WEG’s global manufacturing network.

The supply comprises two synchronous hydrogenerators designed for Francis turbine applications. The first unit is an SPW model, frame 1800, rated at 27,059 kilovolt amperes, 11,000 volts, with 18 poles operating at 50 hertz. The second unit is an SPD model, frame 1000, rated at 6,059 kilovolt amperes, 11,000 volts, with 10 poles operating at 50 hertz. Both machines were manufactured at the Hosur plant and delivered for installation at the Turkish hydroelectric facility.

The hydrogenerators have been engineered for high efficiency and reliability in continuous operation. Once commissioned, the units will operate synchronised with the regional electricity grid, supporting the conversion of hydraulic energy into electrical power and contributing to renewable generation capacity and local grid stability.

The Hosur manufacturing facility is WEG’s primary production hub in India and serves as a key export base for markets across Asia, the Middle East and Africa. Established in the SIPCOT Industrial Complex near Hosur, close to Bengaluru, the site spans approximately 170,000 square metres and houses vertically integrated manufacturing operations. The plant produces medium- and high-voltage motors and generators, including synchronous and asynchronous machines for power generation and heavy industrial applications.

In addition to large hydrogenerators and turbogenerators, the Hosur facility also manufactures low-voltage electric motors following an expansion completed in 2021. This unit has an annual capacity of up to 250,000 motors and supplies equipment for sectors such as pumps, compressors, fans, and process industries, serving both domestic and export markets.

WEG’s operations in India extend beyond manufacturing to include engineering, design, testing, sales, and after-sales support. The company employs a large technical workforce at Hosur, enabling product customisation to meet project-specific requirements in domestic and overseas markets. India also plays a strategic role in WEG’s renewable energy portfolio, with capabilities covering hydroelectric, wind, and industrial energy-efficiency solutions.

The supply of hydrogenerators to Türkiye highlights the role of WEG India as an export-oriented manufacturing base capable of delivering large, technically complex equipment to international standards. The project reflects the integration of WEG’s Indian operations into its global supply chain and its continued focus on supporting renewable energy infrastructure across multiple regions.

WEG is a global manufacturer of electrical and automation equipment, with operations spanning power generation, transmission and distribution, industrial drives, motors, generators, and control systems. The company operates manufacturing facilities and commercial units in several countries, serving customers across energy, infrastructure, and industrial sectors.
