PLR Systems Private Limited, a joint venture subsidiary of Adani Defence & Aerospace and Israel Weapon Industries, has secured a Close Quarter Battle (CQB) Carbine supply contract from the Indian Ministry of Defence under a procurement programme signed on 30 December 2025. The contract forms part of a broader CQB Carbine acquisition for the Indian Army and the Indian Navy, aimed at replacing legacy infantry weapons with domestically manufactured systems.

The CQB Carbine programme is valued at INR 27.70 billion and covers the supply of more than 425,000 carbines along with accessories. The contracts were signed with Bharat Forge Limited and PLR Systems Private Limited as part of a multi-vendor procurement. Based on quantities and values disclosed by Bharat Forge under the same programme, PLR Systems’ allocation is implied at approximately 169,872 CQB carbines, corresponding to an implied contract value of about INR 11.08 billion.

The carbines are chambered in 5.56 x 45 mm calibre and are intended for close-combat roles across infantry and naval units. The system is designed for operations in confined and urban environments and is being inducted to support standardisation of small arms held by frontline units of the armed forces.

Bharat Forge disclosed on the same date that it had secured a contract valued at INR 16.62 billion for the supply of 255,128 CQB carbines to the Indian Army, with execution scheduled over a five-year period. Together, the two contracts account for the full CQB Carbine requirement under the INR 27.70 billion programme.

PLR Systems operates a small arms manufacturing facility at Malanpur near Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh. The company manufactures a range of firearms for military and security forces, including assault rifles, light machine guns, sniper rifles, sub-machine guns, and pistols adapted to Indian operational requirements.

In November 2025, PLR Systems emerged as the sole vendor to successfully clear user trials for the National Security Guard requirement of 1,000 units of 7.62 x 39 mm assault rifles, marking a separate programme milestone for the company’s small arms manufacturing capabilities.

PLR Systems is a joint venture between Adani Defence & Aerospace and Israel Weapon Industries, with Adani Defence & Aerospace holding a 51 percent stake and Israel Weapon Industries holding 49 percent. The company focuses on the indigenous manufacture of small arms and related systems for India’s armed forces and security agencies, supporting domestic defence production and localisation objectives.
