ZF Rane Automotive India has opened a new inflator manufacturing plant and sled test facility in Trichy, Tamil Nadu, with an investment of Rs 100 crore. The plant, designed for the company’s occupant safety business, aims to strengthen local production capabilities for airbags.

The inflator plant has an initial capacity of around three million units per year and will produce both driver and passenger airbag inflators. The new sled test facility is expected to improve testing capabilities, helping the company reduce product lead times.

“The key significance of this facility is its contribution to increasing local content in airbag production, aligning with the “Make in India” initiative. The advanced technologies incorporated into this state-of-the-art facility enhance ZF Rane’s ability to innovate and develop new products in the automotive safety domain,” said a spokesperson for ZF Rane.

This development is part of ZF Rane’s broader strategy to increase its in-house production and testing of passive safety systems, aligning with its focus on sustainable growth in the safety systems market.
