Reliance Infrastructure Ltd has announced plans to establish a manufacturing facility for explosives and small arms in Maharashtra. The company has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the state government to develop the project at a special economic zone (SEZ) in Raigad district. The initial investment for the facility is projected to be ₹1,200 crore.
The project will focus on the production of explosives, ammunition, and small arms, intended for use by the Indian defense forces and other industries. According to the company, the project is expected to create employment for over 1,000 people.
Incentives provided by the Maharashtra government include tax benefits and subsidies to support the project’s establishment. The manufacturing facility is anticipated to become operational within the next 24 months, subject to necessary regulatory approvals.
This move is seen as part of Reliance Infrastructure’s broader strategy to expand into the defense manufacturing sector, aligning with government initiatives aimed at boosting indigenous production.
The company’s involvement in the infrastructure sector spans various verticals, including power, transportation, and engineering services.
