Renault Nissan Automotive India Pvt Ltd (RNAIPL) has announced its Oragadam manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu has produced over 4.5 million powertrain units since beginning operations in 2010. The 600-acre facility supplies these units, which include engines and gearboxes, to both domestic and international markets for Renault and Nissan vehicles.
The facility has manufactured more than 2.75 million Renault and Nissan vehicles to date, producing seven types of engines and three types of gearboxes. Of the 4.5 million powertrain units produced, approximately 2.83 million were engines and 1.67 million were gearboxes. Additionally, the plant has produced over 160,000 electric vehicle reducer components for export.
Keerthi Prakash, Managing Director of RNAIPL, noted that the company is preparing its infrastructure to support new models under a $600 million investment by the Renault Nissan alliance. The plant is equipped to produce engine components such as cylinder heads and blocks, with on-site machining and assembly capabilities. Its range includes engines from 800 cc to 1500 cc, and the plant’s gearbox production capabilities include gear machining, shaft machining, clutch housing, and heat treatment.
RNAIPL, a joint venture between Renault and Nissan, operates from its headquarters in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, supporting the companies’ market strategy in India and international markets. The Oragadam plant exports a portion of its production to over 100 countries.
