Vedanta has announced plans to invest ₹1 lakh crore in Odisha to establish a 6 million tonne per annum (MTPA) alumina refinery and a 3 MTPA green aluminium plant. The project is expected to generate 200,000 jobs and aims to support the state’s industrial growth.

The investment will be focused on building a large-scale industrial complex in Rayagada, with the alumina refinery and aluminium plant expected to contribute to India’s aluminium production capacity. The plant will serve industries such as automotive, power, construction, and railways, where aluminium is a key material.

This announcement comes in addition to Vedanta’s prior ₹1 lakh crore investments in Odisha. The company aims to further expand its presence in the region and support downstream industries. Vedanta Chairman Anil Agarwal remarked that demand for aluminium is projected to double by 2030, positioning the new facility as a strategic asset for future production needs.

As part of the initiative, Vedanta also plans to collaborate with the Odisha government to set up educational centres, hospitals, and skill development facilities to support the local community.

The announcement was made during a meeting between Vedanta Chairman Anil Agarwal and Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, ahead of an investor summit planned for January 2025.
