Lubrizol and Polyhose have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a medical tubing manufacturing site in Tamil Nadu, aiming to increase local production capacity for neurovascular and cardiovascular tubing used in medical procedures such as balloon catheterization. The facility will utilize Lubrizol’s medical-grade thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) and other thermoplastic polymers, which are known for their biocompatibility and performance. The planned facility is set to be ISO 13485 compliant, aligning with standards for safe, high-quality medical tubing production.

The new site is expected to increase Lubrizol’s tubing production volume in India by five times, with products intended for both local and international markets. According to Bhavana Bindra, Managing Director of Lubrizol India, Middle East, and Africa, the project will incorporate precision manufacturing technology and aims to reduce reliance on imports for medical tubing in India.

The collaboration forms part of Lubrizol’s ongoing investment strategy in India, which has exceeded $350 million USD over the last year. In addition to this partnership, Lubrizol recently inaugurated a Global Capability Center (GCC) in Pune, announced plans for a large manufacturing site on a 120-acre plot in Aurangabad, and broke ground on a significant CPVC resin plant in Gujarat to support local demand for piping applications.

Construction of the Tamil Nadu facility is projected to start in 2025, with the site expected to begin operations in 2026.
