The Ministry of Defence has signed a ₹7,629 crore contract with Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T) for the procurement of K9 VAJRA-T 155 mm/52 calibre self-propelled tracked artillery guns. The agreement, categorized under the “Buy (Indian)” initiative, was formalized in New Delhi on December 20, 2024.

According to the Ministry, the K9 VAJRA-T system is designed for cross-terrain mobility and high-altitude operations, capable of operating in sub-zero temperatures. The artillery features long-range firing capability with high precision and a rapid rate of fire.

The project is expected to generate more than nine lakh man-days of employment over four years and involve participation from Indian industries, including micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

This procurement aligns with broader initiatives to modernize the artillery capabilities of the Indian Army.
