Bharat Forge Limited (BFL) has commenced operations at a new defence manufacturing facility in Jejuri, near Pune. The facility covers 300,000 square feet and will support the production of Advanced Towed Artillery Gun Systems (ATAGS) for the Indian Ministry of Defence.
The ATAGS system features 155mm howitzers, which will be manufactured at the facility. According to the company, Bharat Forge has also started exporting these artillery systems to foreign customers, following approvals from the Ministry of Defence and other relevant authorities.
“The ATAGS programme is a testament to Indian engineering excellence, and with this facility, we are laying the foundation for India’s long-term strategic defence technology independence,” the company stated in a press release.
The Jejuri facility is positioned near highway networks and key suppliers, with access to a skilled workforce. Bharat Forge expects the plant to contribute to the expansion of defence manufacturing in India.
