Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) has inaugurated a second assembly line for the production of electronic fuzes for artillery ammunition at its Pune facility. The expansion aims to meet the growing demand for these critical components used by the Indian Army.

The assembly line was inaugurated by Lt Gen Amardeep Singh Aujla, Master General Sustenance, Indian Army, in the presence of BEL Chairman and Managing Director Manoj Jain and other officials.

BEL-Pune had signed a Long-Term Make-in-India (LT-MII) contract in December 2023, valued at Rs. 4,522 crore (excluding taxes), for the supply of 50 lakh electronic fuzes to the Indian Army over ten years. The additional assembly line has been established to support the production requirements under this contract.

On February 10, 2025, at Aero India, BEL signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Reshef Technologies, Israel, its long-term technology partner. The agreement is expected to facilitate the execution of the LT-MII contract while ensuring 100% indigenisation of critical technologies, a requirement under the contract.

BEL manufactures and supplies three types of electronic fuzes—Point Detonating, Time, and Proximity—for 105mm, 130mm, and 155mm artillery guns, in collaboration with Reshef Technologies. The company is also developing naval and aerial fuzes under Make-type projects, which are in advanced stages of development and will be evaluated by users soon.
