Inalfa Gabriel Sunroof Systems (IGSS), a joint venture between Netherlands-based Inalfa Roof Systems and India’s Gabriel India (part of the Anand Group), has announced plans to expand its manufacturing operations in India, according to a report by Autocar Professional. This move is driven by increasing demand for sunroof systems from domestic automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
Currently operating a facility in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, IGSS aims to establish new manufacturing units in the western and northern regions of India. These expansions are planned to align with the commissioning of Hyundai Motor India’s new manufacturing plant in Talegaon, Maharashtra, scheduled to begin operations in the second half of 2026.
The Chennai facility, which primarily supplies sunroof systems to Hyundai Motor India and Kia India, has reached 65% capacity utilization within a year of commencing operations. It has produced over 130,000 units out of its annual installed capacity of 200,000 by the end of November 2024.
IGSS has projected robust growth for the sunroof market in India, driven by increased demand for premium features in vehicles, particularly SUVs. The growing popularity of panoramic sunroofs and advancements in smart glass technology have contributed to this trend.
The Anand Group has committed an investment of ₹170 crore in IGSS over three years as part of the venture’s launch in 2023, with an aim to achieve revenue of ₹1,000 crore by 2030.
Jagdish Kumar, Chairman of IGSS and Group CFO at Anand Group, stated, “Our Chennai plant is nearing full capacity, producing high-quality sunroofs for Hyundai and Kia. With the sunroof market projected to grow by 40% by 2029, we are positioned to meet the rising demand with planned expansions.”
The Chennai facility’s location was chosen for its proximity to key customers and Tamil Nadu’s favorable business policies. IGSS plans to replicate this strategy in other automotive hubs to strengthen its supply chain and better serve OEMs across India.
