Lotus Wireless Technologies (LWT) in India, in collaboration with the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT), has inaugurated a medium-voltage laboratory in Visakhapatnam, India, to support the development of megawatt-scale electric vehicle chargers. The project includes the demonstration of a charger powered by Solid-State Transformer (SST) technology, designed for high-speed charging of electric vehicles, maritime vessels, and aviation systems.

The SST design was developed under the leadership of Markus Makoschitz and his team at AIT. The project emphasizes the integration of locally manufactured components to enable large-scale production in India.

During the inauguration, Friederich Kupzog, Head of Energy at AIT Vienna, highlighted the collaborative effort between India’s engineering capabilities and Austria’s research expertise. The laboratory is expected to facilitate advancements in power electronics and energy systems while fostering further developments in sustainable technologies.

This initiative aims to position India as a key player in the production of advanced charging technologies, potentially contributing to the global adoption of electric mobility solutions.
