Polymatech Electronics has announced plans to establish a semiconductor manufacturing facility in Nava-Raipur, Chhattisgarh, with an investment of ₹1,143 crore. The facility, supported by a 40% capital subsidy from the Chhattisgarh government, will focus on producing Gallium Nitride (GaN) semiconductor chips and advanced packaging technologies for 5G and 6G telecommunications.

The announcement was made during the Chhattisgarh Investor Connect 2024 event in New Delhi. According to the company, the new facility aims to bolster India’s semiconductor manufacturing capabilities, with initial chip fabrications to be outsourced until the company’s foundry in Grenoble, France, becomes operational. GaN chips produced at the new facility are central to high-frequency telecom infrastructure, including base stations for next-generation networks.

Eswara Rao Nandam, CEO and Managing Director of Polymatech, stated that uninterrupted power supply and the Chhattisgarh government’s support influenced the company’s decision to establish its second Indian facility in the state.

Chhattisgarh’s new industrial policy has attracted investment proposals worth ₹15,184 crore across multiple sectors, including semiconductors, electric vehicles, and food processing. Polymatech’s investment aligns with the state’s focus on diversifying its industrial base beyond traditional iron ore and steel production.

This expansion underscores ongoing efforts to develop India’s semiconductor and telecommunications ecosystem, contributing to the country’s push for self-reliance in high-tech manufacturing.
