In a recent address, US Ambassador Eric Garcetti emphasized India’s growing role in the renewable energy sector, highlighting collaborative initiatives between India and the United States. Speaking at the South Asia Women in Energy leadership summit, hosted by the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum, Garcetti outlined the increasing investments and joint ventures in solar, wind, and energy storage technologies.
The ambassador noted India’s renewable energy ambitions, describing the country as poised to become a major global manufacturing hub for solar panels, electrolyzers, and batteries over the next 30 years. He referenced significant investments by the US in clean energy projects in India, including billions of dollars directed toward solar and wind power, electric vehicle production, and energy storage systems.
Specific initiatives, such as the Renewable Energy Technology Action Platform (RETAP), were cited as examples of ongoing cooperation between the two nations in advancing clean energy technologies.
Garcetti acknowledged the challenges democracies face in implementing large-scale initiatives compared to autocratic systems, but he stressed the value of democratic engagement in fostering sustainable solutions. He expressed confidence in the resilience of the US-India relationship, describing it as a foundation for continued progress in renewable energy and other areas.
The ambassador’s remarks come as he prepares to leave office ahead of the incoming US administration. His address marked the first in a planned series of speeches reflecting on themes of peace, prosperity, the planet, and people within the US-India partnership.
