Magna has inaugurated a new manufacturing plant in Chakan, Maharashtra, to produce latches and mirrors for carmakers in western India. The 65,000 sq. ft. facility is expected to generate over 300 jobs within the next three years.

Jeff Hunt, President of Magna MML (Mechatronics, Mirrors, and Lighting), officially opened the facility on Wednesday in a ceremony that included a ribbon-cutting and plaque unveiling.

The new plant expands Magna’s presence in India, where the company operates 14 manufacturing and assembly facilities, along with five engineering, product, and sales offices, employing approximately 7,000 people. The company has stated that the facility will support growing demand from car manufacturers in the region.

India’s automotive component industry recorded a turnover of ₹5.6 trillion in FY23, according to the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA). Several global automotive suppliers have been increasing their footprint in India in response to rising production demands.

Chakan, near Pune, is a major automotive hub, hosting manufacturers such as Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, and Mahindra & Mahindra. Magna’s new plant is positioned to supply components to carmakers operating in this region.
