Aerolloy Technologies, a subsidiary of PTC Industries, has commissioned a Vacuum Arc Remelting (VAR) furnace in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. According to the company, this facility, sourced from Germany, has an annual melting capacity of 1,500 metric tons and can produce aerospace-grade titanium alloy ingots up to 1,000 millimeters in diameter.

The VAR furnace operates under vacuum conditions to enhance the metallurgical quality and ensure uniform alloy composition, making it suitable for aerospace applications such as jet engines and airframes. This development positions India alongside countries like the United States, Russia, China, France, and the United Kingdom in the production of high-grade titanium alloys.

PTC Industries is further expanding its aerospace capabilities through a manufacturing facility within the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor. This planned facility will feature a fully integrated titanium and superalloy mill capable of producing a range of aerospace-grade products, including ingots, billets, bars, plates, and sheets.

Jim Collins, Chief Technology Officer of PTC Industries, highlighted the facility’s adherence to global standards for titanium alloy production. The initiative is expected to reduce India’s reliance on imports for critical aerospace materials.
