JSW MG Motor India has implemented a new Green Pretreatment line in its Halol manufacturing facility, incorporating an ambient temperature phosphate process developed by PPG Asian Paints. The change is expected to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 1,800 tons annually.
The new pretreatment process operates at 38°C, compared to the conventional 42-50°C, lowering fuel consumption by eliminating the need for additional heating. The adjustment enhances process efficiency by streamlining operations and reducing maintenance requirements.
Since 2022, JSW MG Motor India has introduced several process modifications to improve sustainability in its production lines. The adoption of ULTRAX Degreaser, a liquid alkaline degreasing cleaner, along with High Throw Low Cure Cathodic Electro Coating Paint, has led to a combined CO2 reduction of 787 tons per year. Additional reductions were achieved using Low-Temperature Phosphate (VERSABOND) and High Throw Low Cure Coating, cutting emissions by 325 tons and 388 tons annually, respectively.
With these initiatives, the company reports an overall 47% reduction in carbon emissions at its facility.
Biju Balendran, Deputy Managing Director of JSW MG Motor India, stated that the new PT-ED line contributes to optimizing the company’s manufacturing processes while reducing environmental impact. Jitendra Kalra, CEO of PPG Asian Paints, highlighted the role of process improvements in enhancing energy efficiency in automotive production.
