Copeland has inaugurated a new Engineering and Technology Center in Pune, Maharashtra, as part of its INR 5 billion investment plan in India. The facility, covering 15,000 square meters, will house over 320 engineers focusing on research and development, software, and firmware development.

The center is intended to support Copeland’s innovation efforts in energy-efficient cooling technologies, including low-GWP and natural refrigerants for the heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVACR) industry. The company has stated that 15% of its global engineering team is based in India.

Ross B. Shuster, CEO of Copeland, said that the Pune facility, along with the company’s ongoing manufacturing expansion in Atit, reflects its long-term business strategy in India. Patrick Forsythe, Chief Technology Officer, added that the investment aims to enhance product development for both local and international markets.

The company cited the rising demand for sustainable cooling solutions in sectors such as data centers and HVAC as a key driver of its investment. The data center cooling market in India is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) exceeding 8% through 2026, while the HVAC market is expected to reach USD 30 billion by 2030.

The Pune center will integrate with Copeland’s global R&D network across nine countries, supporting engineering advancements in compression technology, power electronics, and energy management systems.
