The Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) has inaugurated a three-day event in Mumbai to mark National Technology Day 2025. The programme, which began at the DAE Convention Centre, is focused on the theme “Transition to Clean, Green Viksit Bharat: Advanced Materials & Nuclear Technology.” According to BARC, over 1,500 students are expected to participate in the event.

The opening session included remarks from several officials. Raghavendra Tewari, Director of the Materials Group at BARC, discussed the influence of materials science on technology, referencing the development of the blue LED. Vivek Bhasin, Director of BARC, spoke on the importance of carbon-free electricity and the contribution of advanced materials to nuclear energy systems.

Ajit Kumar Mohanty, Secretary of the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) and Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC), mentioned recent developments in the sector, including the 2025 Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics and the commissioning of the BrahMos Aerospace Integration and Testing Facility. “Students are central to achieving future scientific goals,” he said.

Kamlesh Nilkanth Vyas, Homi Bhabha Chair Professor and former Secretary of DAE, delivered the keynote address. He reflected on India’s atomic energy history and said, “Material innovations are key to solving complex technological challenges.”

The event also included the launch of an iGOT Karmayogi training course developed by BARC and a new book focused on nuclear and reactor materials.

The Bhabha Atomic Research Centre is a multidisciplinary nuclear research facility based in Mumbai. It operates under the Department of Atomic Energy and is involved in advanced research and development in nuclear science, engineering, and related areas.
